Challenge: A Multipolar Cold War

Inspired by For All Time. Have a Cold War with:

* An isolationist/apathetic United States

* A severe Sino-Soviet split (with the PRC leading its own int'l Maoist bloc)

* A more consolidate Non-Aligned Movement (but possibly localized to only one region)

* A militaristic India leading its own minor bloc (could be the NAM of the above item)

* Canada doing foreign adventurism

* The Scandinavian nations doing foreign adventurism

* A strong neutral Arab bloc

* Expansionist South Africa

* Aggressive East African supranation

* Splintered/nonexistent NATO leading to France continuing its imperial ambitions

* U.K. trying desperately to combat Soviet communism/vestigial European fascism/hold on to its empire

On a more serious note, I could easily see a split between the British and the US immediately after WWII, over the dispensation of the British colonies. As I recall, Palestine was particularly problematic (shocker!), with the US taking a strongly pro-Zionist stance, and the British taking a moderately pro-Arab stance, but the United States was opposed to colonialism in general. A split in the late 40s could lead to US/UK+France/USSR, which I do realize is almost as stereotypical as Nazis, but I feel is most likely.

Short of that, we'll see a US/EU/India/China thing going on soon, which could easily cold-war-ize (though it'll probably end up being China vs everyone). I don't see a large Arab bloc ever happening; Pan-Arabism is pretty much at an all-time low right now. On the other hand, an Islamist bloc is possible, though I'd also consider it unlikely.

A Few Multipolar Cold War Suggestions

1)With the European powers having to devote much of their resources to rebuilding the US makes a completely breaks out of the isolationist shell and flexes their muscles in Latin America, Japan and elsewhere.

2)The UK creates tighter connections(economic, political and military) with other commonwealth states, not dominated by Britain but in partnership with them allows them to recover much quicker and less reliant on US.

3)Of course the USSR also arriving as a major power on the world stage.

4)Seeing how they were dominated and pushed around by other powers and tired of it, the Scandinavian countries(Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland) band together for a single state.

5)China starts as an ally of USSR and they part company in similar fashion to OTL
