I don't know how well they would do but what about the Empire of Japan? I've read plausible timelines where the Japanese are able to conquer a significant part of China, Indochina if not Indonesia, and claim victory before raising the hostilities of the Allies, becoming a third bloc during the Cold War. Japanese scientific and professional prowess + Chinese labor and manufacturing capacity...

If the UK has a viable program, do they use Canadians who OTL went to NASA after the cancellation of the Arrow:eek:? And do they launch from Churchill, Manitoba?:cool: (OTL used for sounding rocket flights, IIRC into the '70s.)

Too far north.
Probably either from British Guiana or Nortern Australia.

The Avro cancellation is a good thing to change--if you can the project but shift the division to spacecraft, then you both retard one power a bit and give your power of choice (UK, Canada by itself, some sort of european collaboration) a boost that was a big deal to NASA in OTL. If a British space program can get them, it's a good idea to.

IMO the British/Empire are the only other contenders as they were the only other power with a fully functional aerospace industry at the end of WW2 which is a bit of a prerequisite. Unfortunately the other prerequisite, ready cash, is missing which is a bit of a stumbling block, although Renida's talk of that all being "ugly face of real socialism's" fault is a bit of an exaggeration IMO.

Or we could cheat a bit and have a three way Japan/China/India moon race in the 2010's.:p
