A challenge? (shoot I misspelled the title, again...)
Though I thought that good thing for Congo would be if emperor could name the archbishob on his own, instead of portuguese king.

The Empire of Good King Leopold? A corporate state, perhaps the very first of its kind. Say what you will about Leopold, but he did bring civilization to deepest, darkest Africa.

I am asking for kingdom{empire ruled from Sao Salvador. Ruled by manikongo, and that manikongo being a black african.
I know that- I was responding to his comments about Belgian Congo.
As for the Kingdom of Congo... well, you'd have to get them to expel the Portuguese at some point prior to the Civil War, but still maintain connections to Europe.

Big problem - they're so far away from Europe, or every developed place in the world (but still so close to the colonialists).
I'm not really sure the Congo can be saved from colonization, unless you drastically reduce European scope of colonization, which would have enormous effects going way beyond Congo. The problem is, as Max Sinister alludes to, is that just about every time a technically superior civilization butts up against a less developed one, the less developed one gets taken advantage of somehow. Its one of the less admirable, but still inviolable, Laws of Humanity (TM).
Hmm technical superiority of Europeans...
I would counter with social superiority of Europeans who had more stable bases and could mobilize their resources both quicker and more effectively. The few "succeses" by Africans were not edit:that much adopting new technologies, but improved logistics.
The Zulus had way too big tech gap. But Menelik of Ethiopia succeded where his predecessors could not... by adopting better governing system.
Maybe Congolese will be outeched no matter what, but they could have out-logisticed oponents...
And several Congolese visited or studied in Europe, it is not like they did not know about their enemies...
