Celtic central europe

Would it be possible if austria and other central europen would be a celtic country.

Would such a country be possible ? A celtic central europe, the but it is a celtic dominated country with the norican language as main language.

with any POD would it be possible, should survive till OTL, being similary strong as France was OTL and might expand to gain Dalmatia, Hungary, north italy.

Would this country really be named Noricum, or would it have a different name ? And if such a Noric Empire would not be possible, than would atleast a celtic speaking central europe be possible ?
I am no expert in history before 1900..

POD: No Rome.
Country would not be called Noricum in 99.9999% realities (but few names would be more likely).
Probably one especially powerful tribe dominates and conquers other powers, it would include a sustainable system of succession, which we do not know of so far. Certain tribes would be able to conquer other areas, Italy might fall to the Helveti (in fact in my TL (First link in Sig) it does) a celtic tribe in switzerland OTL.
I am not sure what tribe in that area would be most likely to take power.

Without Rome there would probably be quite a few Celtic kingdoms, federations and possibly republics in Central Europe, Northern Italy and Gaul.

If you expect to have a culturally Celtic realm in Europe to last for centuries, the obvious thing to do would be to either snuff out Rome before it becomes the top-dog in Italy, or do something to keep it weak and tiny. Just another Latin city-state among many. After the Second Century BCE, just about all the Celtic tribes, confederations, kingdoms and republics in western, central and northern Europe are fucked.

Have Rome break Carthage in the first punic war and focus on north Africa.

Or have Carthage break Rome, leaving Italy with multiple possible centres all fighting each other. Buys the Gauls time and then some.

I think that the migration period may have been caused by a climate deterioration like the little ice age

I would say that even with Rome, a powerful, centralized Celtic state might be able to dig in to the Swiss Alps and create a lasting Celtic culture there, simply because the Romans would figure conquering them would not be worth the trouble.

In this region there is a chance for something like a confederacy or a league to start up from either the Norici or the Boii.

While everyone has been looking at Rome, I think we should also worry about the Cimbri and the Marcomanni as potential threats as well. Whatever tribe becomes dominant enough to be called a state there needs to be strong enough to ward off these Germannic tribes coming from the North.

So there is no way, how this celtic empire would be called ?? and there is no way to see what the language would be like i guess.

It would probably be called after the dominating tribe.
We don't know enough about the Celtic languages of this era to know for sure what they would be speaking.

Maybe around Switerland's Helveti?

I wonder what would it make of the germanic peoples... they take modern Poland? Ripples make the eastern or western continental groups of germanic assimilating to the others? Maybe a Gothic germanic east?

Would it be possible that Austria or Noricum stays celtic instead of becoming a german speaking country ? Unfortunatly information about this language is too sparse. well, the language would develop over time anyway, so its impossible to say what it would sound.

where can i hear samples of those languages ?
However rome should still exist in this timeline, Noricum should stay celtic though.

It would probably sound like Welsh or Breton

It actually probably wouldn't. There were four Celtic subfamilies: Brythonic (Welsh, Cornish, Breton), Goidelic (Scottish, Irish, Manx), Hispano-Celtic (Celtiberian, Gallaecian, maybe some others), and Gaulic (Gaulish, Noric, Lepontic and Galatian).

A central European Celtic language would most likely sound this band, who sings in reconstructed Gaulish.

Even then, perhaps very different.

Then have the Boii perform better and hold on to Bohemia instead of being driven out by the Germanics. When the Roman Empire begins to collapse (either for OTL reasons or for some other reason, even temporarily), have them sweep into Norcium and hold it thereafter. They could possibly expand into what is today Hungary, depending on how badly the Roman Empire is doing, possibly into Illyria. And there you have it, a Celtic state in Central Europe, encompassing Bohemia, Austria and, potentially, the Hungarian plain and Illyria.

The area was at the fringes of the post-Roman world, with everyone being concerned with Italy or Gaul or Hispania (the important, rich parts), allowing the nascent Celtic state to continue existing.
