I just had this weird thought today - if we wanted Kate in France as wife of Louis, might not a better way to do it be to give Charles VIII a surviving son? That way, Anne of Brittany's done her duty and she's not necessarily so desirous a match for Louis - since any kids would be BEHIND Charles VIII's son in the succession (to both France and Brittany). Also, while Queen Mothers had first dibs on a regency, given what happened in England in 1483 (where the regent was commonly thought to have murdered his nephews), an outright marriage of Anne to Louis II d'Orléans might not be so popular. Fernando still wants a chance to meddle in French affairs (because Anne of Beaujeu might sideline her sister-in-law), and what better way to do that than by supporting the guy who has the best claim (after the queen mother) to be regent? And what better way to cement the ties than marriage?
