Catherine of Aragon gives Henry a Son

This has come up before and basically what was concluded is that if Catherine gives Henry a son he won't seek an annulment since it would mess with the succession of the son he does have. Instead he'll fool around with mistresses, recognize any male children that they have (since they could be possible backups), and just wait for Catherine to die of old age since she is older than him.

If she dies before him, he'll get remarried in a heartbeat.

re: Anne Boleyn. Henry Percy was already betrothed and not free to betroth himself to Anne, regardless of Henry's interest in her. She might not be such an obsession without the incentive of Henry needing a son. If Percy's father still wanted the Talbot connection (did I get that name right?); the betrothal stands and what Henry & Anne are doing is just foolin' around.

Henry Percy was not already engaged, his father was talking about a wedding with the Talbot girl, but without Wolsey's interference is likely who at the end Percy will be able to marry Anne Boleyn and not Mary Talbot: they were in love and Anne was a suitable match for him (and boys had usually more freedom than girls about choosing their future spouse)

I think Wolsey is still going to break them up. One, we're talking of 1523/4, when the Butler match planned for Anne was still in the works; two, the Percy/Talbot match had been in planning for years; and three, Henry VIII wasn't stalking Anne at that time, she was just one of Katherine's women. Yes, boys usually had more freedom, but at that time, Anne was going to settle a question regarding title and property in Ireland and England for her family. While neither may have been officially betrothed, neither of them were actually free to chose a partner for love and desire; they were both destined to marry to help raise their family's fortunes.
