Catalan Company Seizes the Empire

Is it at all possible for Roger de Flor to take the Empire in the 1400s?
Probably, all he needs to do is ask one of the major powers in th Balkans, Otto's Hungary, or Venice for support and I can see him overthrowing the emperor in Constantinople. After all that's what did happen in the late byzantine period what with al the civil wars and infighting. Though even if he does lead the empire, Byzantium Is still done for. By 1400 even with the Timurids destroying the Otto's their was no power in eastern Europe or Italy that as capable of halting the Turkish advance especially on a city like Constantinople which was surrounded by the Ottomans.

Though it would be interesting to see how a Catalan run empire would fare in the short term. Maybe it could gain help from Aragon and create some minor state in Greece?

Its certainly possible for roger to take over the eastern empire with foreign support. But keeping it without being too dependent on foreign powers is the problem. The rhomani were already hateful of latins, so this is likely going to make them really paranoid. Hes gonna need to be real pragamatic in order to keep the empire.

Catalan Company

I don't think that they were strong enough to take everything. Pockets of Greek resistance would have remained. I can't see the Catalans capturing Constantinople by a conventional siege. They would have needed help from the inside. The Catalans only took over the Duchy of Athens because it's duke made a serious blunder before the actual battle took place.
