Flipper is an American feature film released on August 14, 1963 written by Arthur Weiss based upon a story by Ricou Browning and Jack Cowden. Produced by Ivan Tors and directed by James B. Clark, it portrays a 12-year-old boy living with his parents in the Florida Keys, who befriends an injured wild dolphin. It spawned a TV series and a sequel, plus a 1996 remake.

In 1967, Al Brodax (of King Features) contracted MGM and Ivon Tors to do a Flipper animated series. NBC agreed to pick up the cartoon, winning it on the 10:00AM Saturday Morning timeslot over The Flintstones reruns. This lasted only 1 season and 13 episodes, ending its run in 1968.

Today, the rights to the Flipper cartoon now belong to MGM, as did the 1964 TV show.
