Supposedly traitorous Swedish General Johann von Patkul, in order to save himself from execution, demonstrated to King Charles XII an alchemical process that could create gold, described in more detail below, and promised million crowns annually the King. The King was interested but refused to pardon Patkul and still had him executed.
What if Charles took up Patkul's offer? Whether the process actually worked or not what would the effect have been? Would massive amounts of real looking, but most likely fake, gold have had an impact on Sweden?
