I've been looking over my old 1848 German unification timeline, and I'm thinking of retooling some of the minor details. Let's say that Germany is united in 1848 under the Prussian crown and through the Frankfurt Parliament. Is it likely that Frankfurt would become the capital city of Germany? Or would the fact that, since it's the Prussians under whom the country has become unified, mean that Berlin would become the capital? Or would it be a South Africa-like situation, with some of the capital-like functions carried out in Berlin and other functions in Frankfurt?
