CANADIAN DISASTER!!!!!

Don't worry, the Habs have no chance of winning the Cup either. RCAF Brat: if the Flames make the semis, count me as a supporter.

That's my hometown he's pointing and laughing at!

Just because you are from Toronto doesn't mean that you have to cheer for their "hockey team".

And here I thought that you were from Winterpeg. I had you pegged for a still heartbroken Jets fan.

Yes, I stopped saying Golf Hotel Golf many years ago, in 2002-3. I've seen nothing to warrant reversing my decision since.

Well, I was raised most of my life in my lovable slurpee capital of the world, but after the Jets I just felt my real hometown was the one I should cheer for. I was born in TO, so I feel very defencive about it.

Well, yeah, but that's why Americans come to Canada. To get away from civilization in the wilderness, or group with Americans in the city because Canadians don't really talk to them.

well, to be fair, canadians really don't get much interactions with americans and the media really influeses the hell out of canadians, which doesn't help. Besides, canadians tend to grow on americans once they get used to the smell. We're like like that XD

But we really don't care if you are american. Just be friendly and that usually just helps in the end. Or at least..people in toronto don't care. we just go "meh..." on everything.

'm from toronto.
I was in Winnipeg at the time, I don't know if Canadians count that as civilization or not. I tried to be friendly, but once they knew we were Americans (was with a group) they chose not to talk to us. Was just university students on both sides though. Who knows? That said my fiance recently brought up moving to Canada as permanent expats and to take advantage of climate change in the coming decades--doesn't seem like a bad idea if we can swing it, any openings for an I/P attorney up there?

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. What about some sort of natural terrorist attack? I.E. dirty bomb in the fishing stocks or something?

Re anti-American sentiment: rather weird, but if you want a safe haven, go to Tory regions west of Manitoba or go the Maritimes. I'm not being partisan: rather that's where a fair amount of CF recruiting is done.

Well, Calgary's team goes golfing early in the spring, so I'm kind enough to cheer them on. I also encourage the golfing careers for the NHL teams from Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Washington, Carolina, Pittsburgh, L.A., San Jose, Anaheim, Phoenix, Dallas, Minnesota, St. Louis, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Florida, New York, Long Island, New Jersey, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Columbus, Nashville, Colorado, and Buffalo.

Two words: Jerome Iginla.

A black hockey player who is actually really good. That alone should be enough for the fans. And they got to the Cup final in 2004, Edmonton made it to the Cup final in 2006 and Ottawa got to the Cup final in 2007. The Canuck NHL teams never have to worry about fanbases - that's never been a problem for ANY of them. We'll get a Cup one day, and that day may not be that far away.

None of the teams are at the bottom of the barrel. Once Phil Kessel is healthy and Jonas Gustavsson is up to speed (and perhaps somebody smacks Brian Burke until he decides to bring Nazem Kadri up from the minors), the Maple Leafs are gonna climb the order and climb it fast. Let's not forget how Edmonton got to the Cup final in 2005. Anything is possible.

Oilers fan, I see. :D

In an attempt to return to topic, why are terrorists attacking Toronto? Is this Al-Qaeda? I can't imagine it, unless the plot was already underway, and at the last minute they decided US targets were too hard to get to (requiring yet another POD), and hit Toronto as it looks American, and has that nice big phallic CN Tower to knock over.

OK, they hit the CN Tower, an office tower in downtown, and Parliament Hill in Ottawa. For yucks, say 3,000 dead. Now what?

NATO activates, the US pledges all support, and we go after Afghanistan. US Special Ops boyos kick open the door, and the Canadians go after Tora Bora. Maybe the don't screw it up, and nail Bin Laden. Afghanistan is shut down, the US public doesn't support going after Iraq, so Bush can't pull it off. NATO stays focused on the Taliban, there's no Iraq invasion, and less rampant anti-Americanism.

Implausible?

Mike

Another possibility: Terrorists find a way to poison the poutine supply. National unity collapses as a result.

Poutine is french fries, cheese curds and gravy. Not quite sure how you poison all that, especially considering that the fries and gravy are cooked and cheese curds are made by curdling them in an acidic substance, which usually is bad for poisons.
