Canadian Barbados in 1884?

I was looking at the Wikipedia list of proposed Canadian provinces and noticed that in 1884, Barbados began to seriously pursue joining the Confederation. Let's say that in this timeline, Canada supports the goal of Barbados and helps them convince Great Britain to transfer the Islands to Canadian control; what happens next?

One of the reasons why
Australia wanted colonies is for a buffer region against Japan, so maybe an aggressive U.S. could lead to Canada wanting colonies in the Caribbean as naval bases against the US?

What if following the ACW the US becomes more belingerant towards all European colonies. In the north this led to the Canadian federation while in Carribean the similar idea failed due to various factors. In 1880 with US continuing its belingerant attitude and attack and occupation of Cuba and Puerto Rico the British colonies attempt to unite again but at same time the idea of joining Canada gains momentum. In 1884 5 New Canadian provinces join the Canadian federation. This is followed by french and Dutch colonies joining by 1889 setting up Canada to become US main adversary in the Carribean.
