Canadian armored invasion of the US: how far does it go?

Just as the title says. If Canada managed to launch a full-scale armored invasion of the United States with the entire armed forces of the Commonwealth (ignoring how or why this situation would come about), catching the United States completely by surprise, in 1938 or so, how far would they manage to penetrate before being pushed back? How many and which major population centers would they capture?

EDIT: Let's divide this into two situations:

1. Canada uses the standard British armored-warfare doctrine.

2. Canada (again, ignoring just how or why they would do this) adopts the German Blitzkrieg doctrine.

Well, in 1938 the US Army consisted of around 161,000 men. Add in the National Guard and it comes to 200,000. The best tank is the M2. If the Commonwealth attacks with full strength then it gets as far as Houston and then has a spot of tea.

So if the Commonwealth attacks out of Canada at full strength in 1938 and catches the United States completely by surprise, they could beat the USA?

Nice!:D

Side note: How long would it take for the Commonwealth forces to put Washington under siege?

the entire Commonwealth? The combined forces of Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, and a few other places? Invading the USA of 1938, the USA that has a tiny army although a rather nice navy? They could go as far as they wanted to, basically. Although you have to wonder just what the rest of the world would do in response to all those places that are suddenly empty of all Commonwealth troops...

How about rather than British or German tactics we have Canadians actually devise the tactics? Night assaults with tanks here we come!

Once again proving that the only way Canada can emerge victorious from any battle is with the aid of thousands of British soldiers doing the bulk of the work. :p

You mean the only way the British can emerge victorious is with Canadians actually figuring out how to do things? ;)

You do realise how small the Canadian army was at the time? Also how many tanks it hadn't?

Yes, which is why the point is the entire Commonwealth's armed forces are in Canada for one reason or another. Did you bother reading the OP?

As far as they want if the Americans sit with their thumbs up their asses.

More realisticly the US army goes through a major expansion and milita units and the like start forming up as soon relations sour and the empire starts bringing in forces.

Initially I think they might get to the Ohio River, Boston, Pittsburgh, perhaps Omaha, perhaps Cheyenne, and possibly Portland (OR) depending on how they choose to go. Eventually you get a lot of angry Americans who resort to guerilla warfare while tooling up the war economy. In about two years the balance is telling and American occupy Canada, eventually annexing it. It also makes us suspicious of our London friends and might have us talking more with Berlin while making newer friends in Mumbai.
