Canada decides on naming itself a Kingdom. What happens next?

Say, for whatever reason, Canada decides on the Kingdom of Canada instead of the Dominion of Canada. What effects does this have on her foreign relations, namely with the USA?

Also, what kind of precendent would this set for the rest of the OTL Dominions?

Could this simple change in name have big effects, or would they be minor?

I agree with the minor bit, unless an Act of Union was passed between British North America and the UK, making British North America one huge constituent country.

Does that mean the Queen will stop by more often? ;)

Y'know, as an American living in Canada I often wonder why they keep her around. She's like an absentee landlady who gets to be on the coins & stamps but only has a guest-star role in the TV movie.

Well for starters I'd imagine that Australia and NZ will be "Kingdoms" as well.

I'd also expect an eventual polarization of Monarchists and Republicans as the Queen continues to exert influence over Canada's Governor Generals. Perhaps the Monarchy remains influential in that realm for longer...

No, it would be more correct to consider the Queen as the head of the company that Canada with the Governor-General serving as the Landlord that sits upon the Residents Council (not the best analogy).

As another American living in Canada, I think this could have a large effect on the psyche of Canadians. This could lead to a greater division over Canada's place in the world, over whether Canada is "British" or "American". It could strenghten Tory Imperialists who would seek to align Canada ever more closely with the UK and the rest of The Empire politically and economically. It might also push the Grit Continentalists more in the direction of republicanism, since to oppose closer Imperial ties could be seen as opposing British institutions generally, including the monarchy.

?Is this just a Name difference?, or ?does Vicky send one of the kids over to be the new king?.

As a American I enjoy committing Les Magestic
