Can threads be deleted [in my case, poorly-researched, embarrassing to me?]?

I created this thread in 2017:

    https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...o-secede-from-canada-and-join-the-u-s.421262/

Nothing really wrong with it, per se, except I hadn't researched the topic properly, and I'm a bit embarrassed about this early mistake.

Same for this political one, which is locked anyway: https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...ection-but-a-dark-horse-candidate-won.422328/ (and I'm a bit embarrassed about, due to the content).

When are threads deleted? Is it only in exceptional circumstances?

Threads have been deleted in the past. If you really want to get rid of it/them, I suggest you report the first post and, in the reason for reporting, ask the mods to delete the thread.

I'll delete threads at OP request, but I don't really know that "this was kind of dumb" is a great reason to do that.
