Can Iran/Persia stay Zoroastrian even after the Arab Conquest?

It took about two centuries for Persia to Islamicize. And even after those two centuries, you had Zoroastrian kings like Mardavij. I'd say he's the absolute latest for Zoroastrianism in Persia.

Zoroastrian Persian heavy cavalry served in early Islamic conquest armies. As other Monotheistic people.

Moat of the Islamic conquests didn't convert until encouraged to do so in under the Abbasid Caliphate (non Muslims payed more taxes so there wad little reason to encourage conversion ). So keep the Umayyad line in power, the conquered territories would likely remain their native religion.

Have the Ummyads stay in power, then you have a Zoroastrian Persia. The Ummyads really didn't care about Islam, they just wanted an Arab Empire.

Now with that said, today Zoroastrianism would likely be more Universalistic then it is today and Islam would be a much smaller religion with Iran being the border between the Islamic world and the Asian world. Iran would be a buffer zone.

I would like to see a world base off that.

It would definitely be interesting. Tengrism would likely still exist, more Monotheistic though then in our timeline, if not completely monotheistic. Wonder if Zoroastrianism without Islam being shoved down their throats would get rid of Dualism. Today Zoroastrianism might still be dualistic, preaching a god of Good and Evil. Islam wouldn't have a Sunni/Shia divide because Shiites wouldn't have a safe place like Persia to spread to and hide. Christianity would by far be the dominant religion with little opposition. I question also without a boogy man like Islam if you would have a Great Schism. Maybe Zoroastrianism would just become the new boogy man.

TOO MANY QUESTIONS!!!!

Indonesian would still be Hindu and Buddhist. I would think a Great Schism was coming no matter what.

Was Persia a bastion of Shiism in the earlier Islam era? I tough it only took off during the Safavids.
