Can China be broken with a 1900, in a way that the concept of a "united china" turn impossible?

Basically, it is possible for China+Tibet+Mongolia be broken, in such a way that supporting a united China would be seem as being a Italian and proposing to unite europe behind Rome?

To make it more clear, I mean breaking almost every single province, a independent Sinkiang, a independent Yunnan, a Independent Manchukuo, Mongolia, Tibet, Shanxi, etc. And keep them separated with every single warlord/dictator/president/king promoting his own regional identity for decades.

I read a timeline once where after the Boxer rebellion, The European Powers break up China into a number of colonies, each over seen by a separate power.
