Campbell beats Boxer in 1992

What if Congressman Tom Campbell had been the GOP nominee in 1992 for Senate in California and defeated Barbara Boxer? Herschensohn's win over Campbell was pretty narrow.

That year Boxer beat Herschensohn 47.9% - 43.0% . It was a close election, and at the last minute a scandal popped up over Herschensohn having attended a strip club (it's iffy on how much of an effect this had).

Campbell was pretty fiscally conservative (one of the most actually), dovish on Foreign Policy, and moderate-to-liberal on issues pertaining to gay rights, abortion, immigration, and climate/environment. I suppose he'd have resembled a real life Arnold Vinick.

Campbell is defeated in 1998 as Democratic candidates sweep California, it also depends on how he position himself on Prop 187 in 1994.
If he goes all out for it in order to help out his friend Gov. Pete Wilson reelection campaign then he is definitely toast, if he tries to straddle the issue then he gets it from both sides, and if he opposes it then he gets primaried from the right.
