Presidential List

John F. Kennedy 1961-1969 (VP Lyndon B. Johnson) – ran against Richard Nixon in first term and (not sure) in second term

Robert F. Kennedy 1969-1974 (VP John Glenn) – ran against (not sure)

Richard M. Nixon 1974-1977 (VP Gerald R. Ford) – ran against George McGorern

James E. Carter, Jr. 1977-1981 (VP Walter F. Mondale) – ran against (not sure)

Ronald W. Reagan 1981-1989 (VP George H. W. Bush) – ran against James E. Carter in first term and (not sure) in his second term

George H. W. Bush 1989-1993 (VP James Danforth Quayle) – ran against Michael Dukakis

William J. Clinton 1993-2001 (VP John F. Kenned, Jr.) – ran against George H. W. Bush in first term and Ross Perot in second term

John F. Kennedy, Jr. 2001-2008 (VP Albert Gore) – ran against George W. Bush in first term and (not sure) in second term - I thought maybe Jeb Bush but would he go for it given the failure of his father to win a second term and his brother’s inability to beat out JFK, Jr. in 2001.

Nitty-gritty US politics isn’t my strong point but I thought it would be a nice stretch to do a TL for the States for the latter half of the 20th century. So, I’m looking for some feedback on this subject.

Is my current presidential list (and VPs) possible?

Is my list of people they might have run against possible?

Any suggestions who JFK, Reagan, and John-John would run against in their second terms?

Any suggestions for the “not sure” spots?

And, of course, any other comments or suggestions are welcome.

For RFK, how about George Wallace. Wallace was a third party runner with wide apeal in the South.

Carter against Bob Dole.

For other not sures use the late comedian Pat Paulson.
