Calling In 007-An Alternate History of The James Bond Movie Franchise

2916258494.jpg

Sir Ian Lancaster Fleming, creator of the character of "James Bond", and the franchise, and possibly the basis of the character itself, although this was debatable at its very best.(1)

Possibly one of the biggest franchises and icons of the modern world, for all of the hardships and troubles it already faced, the James Bond movie franchise (Commonly known as the 007-Cinematic Operations) have established itself as the big dogs of hollywood, even surpassing movie franchises such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe(2), DC Comics Cinematic Universe(3), Quentin Tarantino's movies, or even the King of Monsters universe bringing the franchise into the limits Ian Fleming never imagined in his life. Despite of this, a twist of irony occurs, as the movies overshadows the books, with the slurry of videogames, comics, animated series and spin-offs completely took over the novels's spot.

These achievements, however, could be credited to the last minute-decision that Alfred Broccoli took, on his choosing for a actor that he himself-does not agrees into signing on, at the first place.

Believing that Ian Fleming's personal choices were complete disasters, and his over-perfectionist mind led into various actors being turned down, including Sean Connery, whom balding led into his shocking contract termination. With no actor on board, or even scared to took upon the role, Fleming did a personal, and obiviously personal gamble, as he approached his nephew, Christopher Lee.

And thus, the early days of the James Bond Movie Franchise began.

(1).OTL issue, its either Lee or Fleming. However, when OTL considered Fleming as the real-life Bond, ATL's early exposure to Lee's army service records led to Lee being known for being the real-life Bond.
(2).The Marvel Artists (Previously Artisan Entertainment) Cinematic Movie Universe (Subject for a new TL post-this TL)
(3).The Tim Burton-verse DC movie universe (Subject for a new TL post-this TL)

Obligatory QnA

Q: What the fuck, TTR?
A: YES! EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE WILSONOMICON IS CANCELLED!

Q: Will there be any wanks?
A: Lazenby's name will be much clearer, but he's not Bond. While one, certain Bond will be glorified. This TL however is a wank of its own, anyways.

Q: Will there be any screws?
A: Poor Moore. And most of the OTL Bond actors-except one certain guy will not be the Bonds of this TL.

Q: When it will be updates?
A: My TL my rule.

Q: Will it be abandoned?
A: Fuck you.

Q: Will it be that different?
A: Not truly, but fuck Kevin McClory.

Funnily enough, Fleming actually hated Connery and wanted to turn him away anyway. It was only later with the fame that Connery gained that Fleming accepted him enough to make Bond's background character scottish as a tribute to Connery.

Without Connery, I admit that Lee is plausible enough....

....As long as its not fucking Niven.

True, but expect few movies to make the cut, and EARLIER Thunderball.

Episode I
Dr.No

Official "Bond Potrait(1)" of Sir(2) Christopher Frank Carandini Lee, the first actor who played James Bond.

It was a rather short meeting, when Lee quickly said "Yes" to Fleming's offer to play the character "James Bond", on the upcoming adaptation of the novel franchise. Yet, Fleming is still deeply unsure, as he is fully aware that his cousin is now a big star, on a way on becoming a legend, with his tenure as Dracula were something that Fleming saw could launch Lee into becoming a icon of the horror movie industry. In the other side, Fleming also saw this as a challenge, as Broccoli obiviously going to reject Lee if he does not leave his role as Dracula behind.

Lee was thrown into dillemma, as Hammer "threatened" him that if he leaves, many could lose jobs. Yet, on the same time, he had qualms over rejecting a offer from a fellow family member. Giving himself a month to think over this very, crucial decision he will make soon enough. With his fate, and others obviously at stakes, Lee knew that these very decisive hours could decide his, and everyone's fate at the same time.

On February 1960, Lee called Fleming, and by extension, Fleming brought Broccoli, and Saltzman along, eager to introduce them to his cousin. The meeting began with a rather slight hostility, as Broccoli, at first, saw Lee's attitude "of calling Fleming" as a something that irked him, but after discovering the actual "closeness" between Lee and Fleming, Broccoli backs down, and the talk goes rather smoothly, for both sides, and in the end, Circa that day, Lee will began his role as James Bond, a role that Lee unknowingly is based from his world war two adventures.

(1).Just like presidential potraits, these kind of things goes more "Important" and "Traditional" than OTL.
(2).Given on 1985, exactly on Timothy Dalton's debut as James Bond on A View To A Kill.

The poster for Dr.No, the first movie on the franchise.(1)

Dr.No, is a success. Making its premiere on 1st September 1962, the movie shook Britain, and its international release greatly propelled the franchise into a international level, yet, in a ironic twist, buried everyone, except Lee, as Lee's outstanding one-man show performance dwarfed everyone's, except Bernard Lee and Joseph Wiseman's performance, whom managed to stand out from Lee's shadow. Dr.No, in a sense, made the trend of on making different approaches on movies based from adaptations, with many things from the novel being done very much differently in the movie, with twists and additions oddly enough reported to be coming out from Lee himself. Fleming, whom initially disagree and dissatisfied on the result despite the success it had, is now sitting comfortably, with the royalties he got inspiring him to took a much more active role on the movie franchise, with a actual(2) plan to abandon the novella universe flying on his mind for some time.

Dr.No retells about James Bond's adventure on Jamaica, on his adventure to solve the murder that wiped out the MI6 Jamaican branch, that led him into Dr.No, a ex-Nazi scientist with a plan to fry the NASA's systems, in order to disrupt the American space exploration programs, with subtle hints that the Soviets, and a shadowy, unknown organization being the one who hired the freelance scientist on his operations. Dr.No himself, is presented to be a would-be recruit to that very shadowy-organization itself, with him leading a cabal of Nazi refugees on the American continent, whom Bond singlehandledly dispatched during the destruction of Dr.No's "Lair" on a bauxite mine that he used as a front.

This movie, despite being the first, already cemented Lee's tenure and potrayal of the character as a rather cold-blooded, with a actual questionable motive lurking behind his actions and decisions, that is overshadowed by his charm. Lee's potrayal, however, is a also considered to be one of the darkest, after Timothy Dalton's tenure, while also being the most-"Flamboyant" one, after Sam Neill(3)'s three-movie tenure.

(1).Please. Ignore everything that mentioned Connery on the poster.
(2).Abandoned. Fleming does not actually that daring to do it.
(3).Yeah...i've did it.

Well, this will be somehting to see. Is Sam Neill meant to be like Moore with the humor.
In a sense, lemme give you a hint.

Yes.
Sam Neill's tenure might be short, but during his time, the Felix Leiter spin-offs are the buzz, and he appeared more on those rather on his own Bond movies.

And Neill-is the Moore of this TL, although he is more funnier.

And let me give you hints.

ALL of the OTL Bonds, except Moore, will make their appearances on the franchise, with Lazenby and Brosnan being the most major of them all.

We will have these kinds of things too:

-A SEPARATE novel universe (A'la Marvel comics with their Marvel cinematic universe)
-Games that actually considered as canon to the movie universe (With Neill's and Clive Owen's era having many games based on their tenures)
-Comics, TV series, and animated series that is based on the franchise, with the animated series existing on its own universe, and the TV series being spin offs.
-Spin offs based on side characters, with Felix Leiter's "Felix" as the most popular spin-off series of all time of the franchise.
-OTL things somehow avoided butterflies.
-And again, fuck Kevin McClory. We will have THREE McClory films, but expect those to be something that will act as this TL's source of humor.

Still of Bernard Lee as M, on Dr.No.

For all of its worth, Dr.No, despite the success it generated for Broccoli, Fleming and Lee, despite it eventually turning into a cultural hallmark, it also acted as a career-damaging job for the era, as Lee's superb acting, whom managed to dwarf others, leading to many to misjudge others's actings(1), with Ursula Andress getting the most flak(2), for her supposedly-"Wooden" acting. There, as the money rolled in, Fleming made the daring choice to became one of the producers of the movie franchise, while in the same time, he began to "channel" his affinity to smoke to Bond, making Bond a smoker-just like he was, as Fleming began to end his days as a heavy smoker(3).

With plans laid out for the future of the franchise, Lee's contract were extended up to two movies of him, with him, and Bernard Lee expected to return in subsequent sequels, as the others who potrayed regular characters got replaced. Behind all of this, Kevin McClory, Fleming's close friend, managed to acquire the rights for Thunderball(4), Casino Royale(5) and Risico(6), ultimately blocking Broccoli to do any adaptations of those movies, with Broccolli losing the battle at the court on 1963, with Fleming, now guilt-ridden of the decision he made regarding McClory, pouring his personal wealth to purchase the rights for various, undisclosed(7) characters that is related to those projects, and few others that does not. McClory, in the end, "Won", yet, in the long run, he does not see the damage Fleming had done to his dreams and visions(8), as Fleming managed to exploit some loopholes that is in the agreements Fleming and McClory made regarding those characters.

Slowly but sure, Fleming felt that he was began to be more tied, and commited towards the movie franchise, with thoughts of looking for a "New Writer" for the novels began to be spoken around the Fleming household..

(1).However, starting on the 90's, the acting of the actors on Dr.No began to be seen on a much, positive light.
(2).Leading to the position of a Bond girl being somewhat-a "Scary" thing up until the late 70's.
(3).Longer living Fleming, anyone?
(4).That's it. No Thunderball. How wonderful is that? Where we could put Largo?
(5).Yes..no Casino Roya..wait..there is...
(6).I know right? Risico.
(7).Blofield and SPECTRE. Yes. The loophole managed these characters to appear on Broccoli's franchise, a'la what happened on OTL Maximoff twins situation.
(8).Because like OTL, McClory still fails to find a suitable potrayer for those charas...

45.jpg

The very first still of From Russia With Love, featuring a unnamed SPECTRE agent in a maze-like obstacle course. This very still is known to be the world's first "Teasers".

There, plans were laid out. Knowing very well that McClory holds the rights to the most important(1) James Bond stories that Fleming ever written, Broccoli devises a plan that might shaped the world of cinema-and the franchise forever, as he decided to "Abandon" the concept of "Adaptation", and instead, he goes for a concept that there was a different universe-from the novels, where the events of the movies takes place, giving him, Fleming, and their future successor to create indpendent concepts and stories made solely only for the movies. There, with Thunderball, Risico and Casino Royale out from the picture, yet, the characters of Blofeld-and the organization of SPECTRE were free to be used by Broccoli, yet the story of Thunderball were something he couldnt touch.

It was a dillemma, on what movie should be done next, with From Russia With Love being the common thing spoken around the room for the next few months. Realizing that they are actually wasting time, thinking about those matters, on mid 1963, From Russia With Love, with Terence Young returning back to direct the movie, and Ian Fleming himself joining the writing team as their leader, is on the works. Christopher Lee immidiately jumped, yet, they havent found any new actors for the recurring(2) roles, as Bernard Lee is the only one they kept from Dr.No. There, they scrambled for any actors, while Fleming and his team does his best-with Fleming aiming to create a From Russia With Love that is a original concept-yet somehow retains the original's elements.

Time passed by, and finally, the first actor whom Broccoli called has responded, with Desmon Lleweyn and Robert Shaw accepting the offer to potray Q, and a unknown, SPECTRE agent that will play a pivotal part on the movie. Slowly but sure, as the roles are finally filled, one by one, Broccolli inadvertantly invented a concept that also revolutionize the industry(3), with his decision to feed the tabloids of fake infos regarding the next James Bond movie, only giving a still from From Russia With Love as the only legitimate true information, while also putting ads related to jobs of "Cleaning Services"(4), "Bodyguard services"(5), and a rather cryptic strings of ads that-its crypticness could be called as a advertising failure(6). Yet, some who figured out that those ads-except the cryptic ones are related to a upcoming James Bond movie, managed to garner hype Broccolli needed. And thus, Dr.No became a preambule of this very thrilling, exciting ride that thrilled the world.

End Of
Episode I
Dr.No
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1).In this TL, Casino Royale are officially changed into not becoming Bond's first assignment, with a Sam Neillian era movie being the first assignment, as that very movie will taking a "Flashback" route for the storyline.
(2).While in this TL, Moneypenny will suffer the same fate OTL Leiter got...
(3).Yes. The first of its kind, Albert Broccoli invented it.
(4).Rosa Klebb.
(5).Red Grant.
(6).Will be explained on a mini-update after the end of Episode II, yet, let me give you a spoiler. Those ads is solved on the late 90's, ironically after Christopher Lee blabbered about it on a interview.
