Call Westminister Elections in the 20th C Under Different Voting Systems No FPTP

One odd thing I found out recently was that in 1978 Heath apparently approached the Liberals to discuss the possibility of him and some other anti-Thatcher wets joining with them to form a new Centre party. Very AHish that. If Thatcher lost but managed to hold onto power, I could see that happening, sort of like the SDP in reverse.

I heard about that, with Cyrill Smith I believe?

So early Falklands and a party split? I can feel a reverse 1983 coming on...

I tend to think there would be a poisonous punch-up with Heath wading in (maybe even Heath would mount a leadership challenge!) and the party would end up with someone middle-of-the-road, safe pair of hands to try and hold the fractious party together. Maybe Howe.

I'd vote for a centre party.
