Caledonia the land of pagans and Beer

Anyway I put a ton of research hope you enjoy my caledonia tl. In this tl basically POD is Aulus Platius and his 4 legions tasked with invading Brittania are caught in a storm and instead land in Ireland;)

Roman Caledonia
43
4 roman legions from the IX Hispania under the general Aulus platius set sail for Brittania off the coast of Gaul. However a fierce storm blew them of course
42
Aulus and his men don’t realize they landed in the island of Hibernia. Aulus disembarks thinking he has reached Britannia. Yet he sees a pitiful site. He had arrived on useless land. Strange he thought but then knew he was tasked with conquering this land.
41: The last Hibernia are defeated by the roman legions, however it turns out Hibernia has little to no food for support. Aulus decides to change this; he sends word to Claudius who soon sends shipment of livestock to Hibernia as well as supplies. Aulus also is sent stone and money to Roamnize this new land.

40: with crops and food imported, soon wheat and oats became the staple Hibernia diet. Aulus became governor of Hibernia in this year, however he still believed he had arrived in Britannia.

30: For ten years Eire has grown with continued imports from Rome and soon develops a small population. Sadly it cannot increase by much due to relatively little land. SO Eire population grows slowly. Aulus meanwhile does his best to build roman baths, temples, and roads in this province. That by this year Caledonia had become very romanized.

Meanwhile the Romans who name it Britannia however it is separate from Hibernia capture Britain.
For the next 300 years Hibernia gradually becomes romanized, complete with ships and legions. The Governors of Hibernia exploited its plentiful wood and timber.

330
A new religion known as Christianity has spread across former roman lands, however in Hibernia Julius Antonius Maximus Governor of Hibernia refuses the new religion. Missionaries were executed and may of the people like their pagan lifestyle. In fact many priest were thrown into the sea. Constantine was outraged at what he saw as heathens. Soon a massive roman invasion fleet was gathered, Constantine swore that either “Hibernia accept Christianity or he will invade.
333 A huge fleet of ships is assembled as it sails for Hibernia, however Julius is ready, for years the Hibernia romans had built their own fleet from wood found in the land. To help Hibernia a big storm wrecked most of the roman fleet and across the thick fog in the channel the Hibernian ships dealt a decisive blow to the roman galley. Nearly half the invasion force was sunk and thousands of soldiers drowned at sea. It was Constantine’s greatest blunder. From that day for the Eire was cut off completely from Rome. Julius knew that he needed food, or Hibernia cannot survive off just its pitiful land. SO he turned to another country.
Hibernia secures a stable food crop.

410: The Roman Empire has crumbled with invasions from barbarians. The Roman troops leave Britannia; soon the Hibernian Romans seize most of Cumbria. Their King the pagan Brutus Maximus defeats an invasion by picts.

650: With Rome fallen many new kingdoms arise in Europe; Christianity is under Francia which soon expands. Meanwhile Hibernia is cut off from the rest of the world. The Arabs invade into Byzantine and Persian lands and soon sweep across Hispania bringing an end to the Visigoths. Meanwhile HIbernia develops internal trade, while Rome had fallen in Caledonia roads, baths, aqueducts, and many roman buildings survived. 90 percent of this population worshipped the Roman Pantheon of gods led by Jupiter. They considered themselves the true Romans. They successfully beat back countless invasions by Barbarians.

Anyway in this Tl little butterflies occur outside of England. Also in this tl Christianity fails to take off in eire.

oh no... i'm feeling the urge that i only get on full moons... the urge... to... nitpick!!!!

1stly, England did not exist at this time. England comes from Angle-land, the Angles being one of the Germanic groups who invaded Britain during the fall of Rome. Britain is the proper term here.

2ndly, Caledonia is present day Scotland, not Ireland. The Romans called Ireland Hibernia or sometimes Scotia. The term Eire would never be used by Romans, and possibly was not used by the Irish at this time either.

3rdly, in 410 is when Britain severed ties with the Roman Empire.

4thly, Northumbria is an Anglo-Saxon name, and was on the east coast of Britain. If you want the Romanized Irish to invade Britain from the west, they would attack Cumbria.

5thly, Britain IOTL wasn't even fully romanized. Their descendants are the Welsh.

... look, as someone who's first TL was eerily similar in premise to this one, I fully support your idea. just some edits needed to make it appropriate

best of luck

Errnge I fixed my mistake,
COokie the picts have been destroyed
Campbell TY: But this is not Roman hegemony but Hibernian Hegemony;)
update
700A.D
In this year tired of frequent raiders by Anglo Saxons, the self proclaimed Emperor of Rome Julius Flavius Aurelius Augustas Maximus or better known as Julius II decided the angles would be destroyed once and for all. So in this year Julius created a Hibernian army of some 10k Hibernian legions. Tribune Ambrosias Anaxamus led them. Soon the Hibernii navy boarded these hips and sailed for the lands of the Anglo-Saxons, better known as Scandinavia.
701 A.D Hibernii legions land at the village of Viborg(Denmark) Here the Legions easily destroy the Anglo Saxon soldiers. Ambrosias soon win a string of victories as he takes nearly 90 percent of the land. (Demark) from
here he soon gets reinforced by another 15k Hibernii who soon land in Kaupang (norway) Here the Legions face fierce enemies as battle hardened warriors fight bitterly with Hibernian legions

708 A.D after bitter fighting through harsh terrain the last of the angles are decimated. The Anglo Saxons come under occupation of the Hiberni. Ambrosias becomes governor of Nova Hibernia, He soon established roads, builds cities, reinforces region, and soon Romanization begins in the barbaric land.

710: The ERE Justinian II looks with alarm at the growing power of these heatehn barbarians who call themselves the true Roman emperors. However he is in no position to act against the Hibernii due to the Arabic incursions. However in Europe II rival emperors claim the throne.

720: Meanwhile the franks are defeated at Poiters by Muslim forces. Soon Francia sues for peace with the Abbasids. The Abbasids however turn to a far more tempting prize, Hibernia.

730: Wary of the heathens Julius watches the growing events with horror.
731: Julius dies of pneumonia. His son Maurice becomes Maurice IV emperor of the Romans and Maurice V king of the Hiberniii.
732. The Arabs soon build a fleet of ships as they launch the great Invasion of the infidels. Thousands of Abbasid troops are formed into an army. Maurice realizes if he does not act cautiously he can potentially lose his expire. But the Hibernii navy is one of the most feared navies in the known world; it has achieved supremacy on the high seas. Soon at the fierce battle for the channel the 100 ship Abbasid force is destroyed by the 60 ships Hibernii. Thus many of the transports are sunk so the whole invasion ends with no soldier returning. 20k soldiers drown at sea. The Abbasid Caliph weeps at his loss.

733: After the crushing Abbasid defeat Maurice turns to conquering more of this peninsula where Nova Hibernia was created. SO he invades the Jutes and soon the Legio IV Neptune and Legio VI Athena land in the province of Scandia.

734: Throughout this time the Abbasids destroy the Kingdom of Francia, finally the stronghold of tours falls to the Muslim invaders. But soon a terrible disease sweeps Europe.

735: Soon the Hiberni legions smash their way through this icy territory. One reason they could handle the temp was because that was their temp daily.
736: The Last Jutian provinces fall
737: Maurice is know throughout the empire as Maurice the just for building libraries, roads, baths, statues, and many more buildings.

Btw Butterflies have not affecetd the mid east so Islam still forms, why cause the butterfly net stops at Brittania.;)

Anyway here is the map of 740 A.D Hibernia is yellow. light green is bbasid Frnacia

I the 8th century the places where the Hibernii would meet with resistance in Norway would be;
1 Kaupang south-west of Oslo. Oslo wasn't founded before 950-1000 or something. The south east of inland Norway at this time was splattered with tiny kingdoms, they would probably be walkovers.
2 Tröndelag aka Nidaros, Trøndelag was the most thickly settled part of Norway in the viking era and before.
3 on the west coast there were many powerful (by local standard) tribes, the Horda, the Rugii, the Mörings etc..

Denmark, the village of Christina? Have the Danes be Christianized already in your TL? Jelling would be a better place for the Danes to put up some resistance.

yeah your right I'll fix the mistakes.
no Danes aren't Christian blunder on my part.

About the rugii, Morings, and horda... Honestly do they stand a chance against roman legions. The Hibernii legions Follow the same makeup as roman legions but instead wear lorica segementa armed with iron longswords instead of gladius and Reinforced by Archers and Heavy Cataphrats. So yes those tribes are subjugated by Hibernia.

About towns I'll fix them right now:)

ROFL...

Beer and Pagans? Pure Gleska - a joke about the attitudes of Rangers and Celtic supporters to one another, is it now?

Update/:D:D:D Srry for the long hiatus. hope you enjoy this.;)

750:
Maurice died and his son Antonius flavius Maximus Aurelius Crassius became emperor. However trouble brewed. For centuries the Saxons had succeeded in conquering most of Roman Britannia. They had converted to Christianity. One such King was Æthelberhto Ruler of Northumberland.
Antonius looked upon him as an invader. In fact the Hibernians spurned the “barbarians” as the Anglo Saxons were called and despised the Christian Saxons who had converted. Anglo Saxon raiders raided the province of Caledonia Hibernia’s province in Britannia.
751: Antonius enraged declared war on Aethleberhto and soon 6 Roman legions were called up to arms. The two Kingdoms were at war.
752: Led by Antonius personally the Hibernians crushed Aethelbertho’s forces at Yeavering. Soon afterwards the brutal conquest of Northumberland commenced.
753: The Roman legions pillaged and looted Northumberland. Resistance fell apart because the Germans had no way to defeat a true well equipped, and well drilled roman army under competent leadership. The Legions simply showed complete and utter superiority on he battlefield. Antonius was what one would call brutal. He burned and looted the churches. Killed any and all Anglo Saxon men or as he called them the “ Heathen invaders who must return from whence they came and leave this country” He showed them no mercy. The Woman were married to the soldiers and were used for various other sorts of” Pleasures”. The Kings wife herself was captured, raped and then executed. The Whole Royal family of Northumberland was slaughtered. None were spared. Many Anglo-Saxon noble families would also meet this grisly fate later on.

754: Northumberland was completely crushed by the Hibernians led by Antonius. It was said he fed the priests to dogs. In fact bloodhounds would be released and the priests would run. The Bloodhounds would chase the priests and tear the priests to pieces. In fact Antonius and his men enjoyed great joy in this sport.
755: Northumberland was finally under the control of Hibernia. All churches were burned and looted, and the priests died horrible deaths. Antonius gave one offer to the conquered. Convert to the roman pantheon or be put to the sword. In this manner many spurned Christianity and converted to the Roman religion in fear of death. In Antonius Autobiography he was to have viewed churches as “ heretical peoples who follow a barbaric and archaic religion, a religion of “Infidels and heathens, they have spurned the true faith of the roman pantheon, they are barbarians who had dared to defile roman traditions.” Antonius was what one would call a devout follower of the Roman pantheon. He despised Christianity, which was persecuted, throughout his reign.
In response to the fall of Northumberland the pope was to have said to have wept at the horrible mistreatment of Christians. Yet he could do nothing. The Abbasids had decimated Francia which was still recovering..
In the ERE Leo V became Emperor of the East. Leo realized Egypt and the Levant were lost so he turned to the Lombard kingdoms. The Lombard was greatly weakened at this time and the opportunity was ripe for invasion. The roman fleet still held supremacy at sea, so an invasion of some 20k was called up to retake Italy.
756: In this year Leo heard of the so-called pagan emperor of the West. At first Leo could not believe the news but it turned out in Hibernia and Caledonia the Roman civilization was flourishing. In fact the Hibernians were more Roman than the ERE itself.

757: By this point the Abbasids destroyed the last Visigoth kingdoms in Iberia. Iberia was under complete Abbasid control.
758: By this point Hibernia’s capital Nova Roma had grown very rich with trade. With the trade from across the Scandinavian islands to the Abbasids and the Franks the city had become rich. Under Antonius the city was designed in the figure of Rome itself. He built many baths, paved roads, and in this year construction on the future great Coliseum of the Cassius. It would rival the Roman coliseum itself.
Now one must wonder where did Hibernia get all its funds, well you see with the plunder of the various monasteries in northern England, Hibernia grew rich. In fact many monasteries were defended very little. This allowed the Hibernian legions to pillage and loot countless amounts of gold and jewels (Also much gold and jewels were looted from the Anglo-saxon noble families and heir kings treasuries and heirlooms). With all this influx of wealth Antonius could fund many projects. Nova Roma boomed. It was a city filled with running water. From miles away water came. However you see one startling success in the impoverished land of Hibernia was due to its rich provinces in Britannia. Caledonia and later on Northumberland, Brittania, and the Scandinavian isles would export food into Hibernia. Effectively Hibernia survived mainly through imports. It was safe because the Hibernian navy (of some 200 ships) were the unquestioned “rulers” of the sea.
Antonius was what many call a liberator. To the Christians and Saxons he was the devil, to the Romans a savior. He was a man who did he best for his people but was known for his brutality. Under him Hibernia started to spurn all religions. Any religion that did not follow the Roman Pantheon was heretical and would be exterminated. However in Scandinavia the Pantheon of the Scandinavians with Odin as incorporated into the Roman Pantheon. Eventually the two religions merged in the great Council of Hibernia. Here the two religions combined. The pantheon of the Norse was incorporated into the roman Parthenon. Soon writers created new stories and poems about the Norse and the roman gods. Many even altered Roman and Norse folklore, putting the Roman and Norse gods together.

Caledonia by this point was a thriving power. Wile the rest of the world failed Hibernia remained strong. The Abbasids soon considered the “Infidels to be the third Civilization next to the ERE and themselves.

However soon turmoil would sweep across the united country. The worst would occur. A civil war. Antonius had given birth to no successor in 784. At his death various governors declared themselves to be the emperor. Soon the great Hibernian civil war of 784-790 would commence. It would throw Hibernia into chaos.
773: subdued the various Anglo Saxon kingdoms by Antonius. Antonius and the legions simply plundered looted and destroyed. It was said by the Germans “ The Heathens came upon us like vultures as they tore us to pieces.”
By 780: The Last Anglo Saxon Kingdom of Essex fell to Hibernian forces. With the fall off Essex Saxon dominance of the Island was over. Soon many of the Saxons who remained were treated as second-class citizens. However were they to convert they would become honorary Romans. In this manner by Antonius death much of Britain had reverted to worshipping the old Roman pantheon. The Christian missionaries had been expelled altogether from the island except in Wales and all catholic churches were burned to the ground. No Catholic was allowed to preach or practice the religion in fear of death,
It was a dark day for Christendom. A whole religion was mercilessly wiped out of the island and a grou of people brutally massacred and put to death.
From 781: hardly any missionary dared venture into the “Godless land” Lest they die In horrible ways. Christianity had been stopped.
By 783 nearly 90 percent of the pop worshipped the roman gods. Although many were closet Christians on the outside the worshipped the roman gods. Under his reign many temples were built across the land. It became mandatory to go at least twice a week to the temples to pray to the gods.

Anyway guys wondering should I revive this tl. It seems like a good idea. What are your thoughts? By the way I promise not to make those atrocious spelling errors in the coming updates.

It's interesting where it goes, but the basic premise is unfortunately completely unrealistic. So would you be doing it for fun, or for skillz?
