CAFTA, 40 years early

WI Mackenzie King signed the draft reciprocity, aka free trade deal set up in 1946 by C.D. Howe? What would the effects be on the booming Canadian postwar economy and on the future political development of the country? In OTL he refused because he feared an effect similar to 1911. Aka Tory victory waving the bloody shirt of nationalism/anti-Americanism. As Dief tried in 1963, with near success. Never say only Liberals are anti-American...

If we see higher trade can we butterfly away black Sunday or put it off?

*doesn't understand economics*

Black Sunday is in 1982, and the butterflies would take a while to work out. The deal was to be ratified in 1946-7. Politically, we see protectionist Tories foaming at the mouth, like with the Liberals and NDP in 1988 in OTL, with heckling from the Commons galleries and singing O Canada in faux nationalist garb. Although this time it would be "God Save the Queen", for the Citizenship Act, one of King's last major domestic initiatives of his prime ministership, hasn't been passed and we're all British subjects . St-Laurent will win the next election with a greatly reduced majority from OTL, and Dief might become Tory leader earlier . That might have effects on anti-Americanism in Canada, causing it to reach 1962-3 levels by 1955 .
