Butterfly away the Seven years war.

As it says on the tin. The Seven years war, as we know, ensured British control over India and North America. Is it possible to have the status quo remain stagnant for the next 20 odd years, perhaps until the turn of the century?

Might be possible to butterfly away a war on the continent in '56-'63, or the Austrian and Prussian aspects of it all, or both, but England and France will clash sooner or latter.

France and England will clash surely in few years but the Seven Years War was fought mostly because Austria want back the Silesia (who Prussians conquest in the War of the Austrian Succession) and was mostly an Austrian/Prussian conflict. If the Silesia remains to Austria at the end of the War of the Austrian Succession, the Seven Years War will not happen.

Agreed, although it might be delayed.

Yeah, it would be pretty easy for it to be in the 1770s instead of 1750s or something if one messed around with certain specifics - the odds of no Anglo-French war are low, but this specific conflict was far from inevitable.

If we judge by the outcome of the War of Austrian Succession, no. Even if the war hadn't started in North America it was still going to happen in some form in Europe. Austria was not going to just give up over Silesia.

The trouble is that Britain and France has been on a collision course for (at least) 50 years. With both Empires expanding at the cost of eachother this war had to happen.

It may be possible to have the indivual bits delayed but basically each one had to happen in some way.

An interesting note is if the French Indian War didn't happen untill later the Washington may not have had the reputation he did and who would be the leader of the Americans if not his Excellency?
