Bush/Kemp 1980 Collaborative TL

Hi guys. I made a TL with the same topic many months ago, but it ended up fading into obscurity. I'm going to start it up again.

March 4th, 1980: Former Governor of California and Republican Presidential candidate Ronald Reagan suffers an injury to his spinal cord that leaves him paralyzed below the waist. Due to his, he drops out of his campaign for President.

July 1980: Director of the CIA George H.W Bush wins the Republican nomination for Presidency. He nominates Jack Kemp as his running mate.

November 4th, 1980: CIA Director George H.W Bush is elected the 40th US President over current President Jimmy Carter with an electoral margin of 348-190.

November 4th, 1980: President Carter concedes the election to Bush, wishing him luck in his Presidency.

December 8th, 1980: Former Beatle John Lennon narrowly avoids death after deranged fan Mark David Chapman is arrested for attempting to shoot Lennon outside of his home in Manhattan.

January 20th 1981:In his ingural address President Bush starts out with his now famous. "Read my lips no World War III"

Not quite old enough to remember 1980. Would people back then have openly made the Bush jokes they make today? (Especially with Kemp being one letter off from Hemp?)
 
December 8th, 1980: Former Beatle John Lennon narrowly survives an assassination attempt by a deranged fan named Mark David Chapman. While Lennon is shot in his shoulder, he is brought to the hospital in time to receive treatment and is released two weeks later.
 
February 2, 1981: One Mikhail Gorbachev is involved in a mysterious car accident in Moscow with rumors stating that the "car accident" was an assassination plot by CPSU hardliners.
 
February 9th, 1981: President Bush makes a speech at the University of Berkley, warning students about the dangers of a mysterious new illness entitled "AIDS". "It is important to be prudent when engaging in such activities", the President emphasized. "While sexual activities are a part of our lives, it is important to know how to engage in such activities", which he emphasized by holding up a condom.

March 2nd 1981:President Bush addresses congress about his economic plan in which he proposes tax cuts for the middle class and spending cuts while a tax hike for the rich.
