A few different discussions have greatly aided my ideas for the "Created Equal - Jefferson in 1796" TL I've been slowly developing. If I have time, it'll be up - could be winter when we're all trapped inside befoer that happens but for when or if I have time I wanted to ask this.
My original idea was that Burr and Hamilton don't duel because of butterflies.
Adams buys Louisiana in 1803 and there is a ban on slavery in the territory, partly to appease New England Federalistis, partly because of Adams' own desires. (I read in one thread about it this was possible if not likely, and it fits with what I want to do.)
Lots of French around New Orleans who lived there and had slaves move to West Florida (with butterflies causing a war with Spain which replaces OTL War of 1812, as there's peadce with Britain.) This causes Burr to buy even more land than OTL. But, Hamilton will also have a chance as a victorious general (but not the most successful perhaps.), plus from what I've seen in my reading online he was more clearly anti-slvery than Burr, though I could be wrong.
Now, I want Theodosia to live becasue that will help spur womens' suffrage at least where Burr resides. But, I'm thinking Louisiana, being less populous, might be better than New York for that.
OTOH, maybe Burr could make it back in New York as a Senator if not as President. Maybe Hamilton would be better off in Louisiana - becasue I eventually want it to also be a little easier for free blacks there, too. (I have an idea for getting Burr on the side of abolition a little more in 1822, though, so Burr can build a big power base in Louisiana, too.)
Which would be more plausible as a long-term governor of Louisiana for 15-20 years (presuming Hamilton and Burr both die int he 1830s)
