Burr and Hamilton both live!!!!

1804-Hamilton and Burr go to Weehawken, New Jersey and their duel ends with both men shooting in the air.
The Clinton-Livingston Political machine uses the duel to try to destroy the two men but unfortunately it backfires on them when Alexander Hamilton publishes a pamphlet to counter almost the attacks of the New York American Citizen and Philadelphia’s Auroracalled In Defense of Honor. This pamphlet over the years leads to the legalization or semi-legalization of dueling .

1806- The Second Quasi-War. A much more popular Aaron Burr who has come out west with his followers with the help of Andrew Jackson ignite a war against the Spanish---The allies of the French in the Mexican/Texas territories. Secretly he is getting help from the British and Ambassador Anthony Merry who despises Thomas Jefferson for his lack of political etiquette and him paying millions for Louisana to the French war machine to further confound the efforts of Napoleon and with 2 years successfully seizes most of modern day Texas and the mission of San Antonio with the help of Indian allies and Mexican priests renaming the city Burrsville which was closed off to American settlers now is open to settlers again making him very popular in the throughout the Americas
President Thomas Jefferson stays neutral in hopes of not getting the US involved in a war. Meanwhile later in the year despite difficulty of holding together his gains and financial problems Aaron Burr proclaims the independent Democratic Republic of Texas—“a union of honest men and women” and invites Whites ,Indians and those of Spaniard or Mixed blood to settle in the new republic as long as they swear loyalty to the new government with himself as President-General for life and Senators for life(This is done to prevent the native Spanish population from getting a foothold in the new republic until enough American settlers can move into the new country but also for Aaron Burr’s benefit).Aaron Burr’s financial backer

1807-The Wilkerson Affair –letters are intercepted by American troops that lead the government to believe that Col. James Wilkerson is a traitor and in service of the Spanish and giving them information on Burr’s activities in the new republic. This inflames the winds of war more with the US but also sours relations with Texas.
Back from self imposed political exile, Alexander Hamilton’s attack through a new invigorated United-Federalist party hope to take back Washington.
Col. James Wilkerson is hanged for treachery by Jefferson’s government but Jefferson is still skewered in the press as ”incompetent”
As a last ditch effort Thomas Jefferson enacts the Embargo attack as the French seize over 13 million dollars worth of U.S. shipping in European ports which makes the President even more unpopular.

1808-Thomas Jefferson’s party The Democratic-Republican Party fractures over the New republic of the west and the expansion of slavery not only into the Louisiana territory but beyond into the new republic and gets the more radical wing led by Congressman John Randolph and their new presidential candidate James Monroe to break with the dying party and form a new Constitutionalist Party and to stay out of the war.
Alexander Hamilton’s United- Federalist Party chooses Rufus King as VP and Charles Pinckney as President.
The rump Democratic-Republican Party chooses James Madison as their candidate.
After the Burnsville Massacre where a Spanish force seizes Burrsville despite the heroic efforts of General Andrew Jackson and forces the new government to flee the news reaches the east and puts United-Federalist Party into power.

1809-President Charles Pinckney is sworn in and commits to ending the embargo. Reaching a peace with Europe and supporting the Democratic Republic of Texas. Within a year the new Secretary of War Alexander Hamilton is able to muster troops to prop up the Republic of Texas and ironically his old arch-enemy Aaron Burr but is able to seize Florida with an alliance with the Seminoles ---as part of the deal the Seminoles will retain most of West Florida and the Union would get East Florida with it’s capital at St.Augustine and therefore prevent a European power from using Florida as a means of attack into the US —both would be admitted into the Union or Texas as separate states over time.

What do you think?---Be kind it's my first timeline.

Burr was out of favor with Jefferson and had lost the NY Governorship by the time of the duel--his prospects politically were slim to none by the time of the duel.

Sounds like an interesting idea; but let me make a few comments:

The name is Wilkinson, not Wilkerson.

The reason that Burr ended up being prosecuted by Jefferson was because Wilkinson betrayed him after giving Burr the original idea to steal a south-western empire, then realizing that a few men (including Andrew Jackson) on flatboats does not an empire make. This is in OTL, of course.

Also, no matter how much Jefferson wanted to be neutral in European affairs, his own past vice-president creating a rival empire in the SW, that seems obviously against his own country and intentions, would create a very clear-cut case for military action.

Furthermore, Jefferson would quickly disown Burr from having any relationship to the Democratic-Republican Party (and this view would not be totally wrong, given the events of the 1800 election), so it does not seem likely that in just one presidential cycle Hamilton could re-invigorate the Federalist Party enough to get it the Presidency.

What would be interesting is what happens with the Chesapeake affair. With weird actions going on in the west, any aggressive action by the British would be perceived as ten times worse than it actually was. In fact, the only reason there was not a War of 1807 (vs. 1812) is that the trial for Burr was going on in OTL. Without this, there could easily be a complex war in 1807. Fun to look into.........

Anyway, keep the TL going, it looks interesting.

Revised Burr and Hamilton Timeline

This pamphlet over the years leads to the legalization of dueling nationwide.

1805-Burr now more popular than ever thanks to the duel offers his farewell address to the Senate which only attracts followers all over the country who follow him to the West.

1806- The Second Quasi-War. A much more popular Aaron Burr who has come out west with his followers with the help of Andrew Jackson ignite a war against the Spanish---The allies of the French in the Mexican/Texas territories. Secretly he is getting help from the British and Ambassador Anthony Merry ( who despises Thomas Jefferson for his lack of political etiquette and him paying 15 million to the French and helping the French war machine to further confound the efforts of Napoleon) and within 2 years successfully seizes most of modern day Texas and the mission of San Antonio with the help of Indian allies and Mexican priests renaming the city Burrsville. Texas which was closed off to American settlers now is open to settlers again making him very popular throughout the Americas

Aaron Burr’s financial backer Harman Blennerhassett is able to recruit thousands of settlers once news reaches the East of Burr’s victory.

1807-The Wilkinson Trial –letters to the Spanish are intercepted by American troops that lead the government to believe that Col. This inflames the winds of war more with the US but also sours relations with Texas. Col. James Wilkinson is hanged for treachery by Jefferson’s government but Jefferson is still skewered in the press as ”incompetent”

The Chesapeake-Leopard Affair---The USS Chesapeake is seized by the HMS Leopard which enflames the public even more. Even President Thomas Jefferson goes on to say “I have never seen the country in such a state of exasperation”
Back from self imposed political exile, Alexander Hamilton’s attack through a new invigorated United-Federalist party with the hopes of taking back Washington. The two issues only help his party even more.

1812-Second War of American Independence-The British upset at the Convention of 1810 or the Second Treaty of Mortefontainebegin a full scale declaration of war against the US government
Aaron Burr is assassinated by a secretly funded British faction and Andrew Jackson is sworn in as the new President-General after a Temporary Executive Council led by Harman Blennerhassett The Presidential Palace is almost burnt down in the celebration that follows. The Patriot Party merges into the People’s Party due to several high profile duels and the newly passed Loyalty Act.
Within 3 months. the constitution of the Free States of Texas is formed with 6 states—East Texas, North Texas, West Texas, Monterrey, Rio Grande and Nuevo Mexico.
.Meanwhile in this new election of 1812 the newly formed Democratic- Constitutionalist Party who push James Monroe as President who had dealings with the English thus capable of getting a treaty signed with the English, to reunite the party and take on the growing Hamilton political machine—(and formed Citizen’s Society of New York which goes on to challenge Tammany Hall in local NY politics)
Charles Pinckney again was the candidate of the United- Federalist Party who wanted to pursue a war with the British despite Hamilton’s misgivings as Secretary of State
There is also a third party candidacy by Dewitt Clinton and his Independent Peace Party which not only is anti-war but against the admittance of the Texas into the US (because not only expansion of slavery but it’s support of the British Empire)
.President Charles Pinckney despite his popularity in some quarters barely wins the election but gets the support of Dewitt Clinton in exchange for not admitting Texas into the Union at this time. This is seen as unpopular in Texas and seen as “a corrupt Yankee bargain” by the not only Texas but also Southerners (who are now starting to rally against the growing power of the New York Political machine and think Pinckney sold them out via his VP Rufus King who is a friend of Hamilton’s). Alexander Hamilton resigns as Secretary of State after a break with the administration because of not wanting to go to war and his pro-British ties.

Any comments?

The US is not likely going to allow an Indian Republic sitting on its Southern border and why would the Republic of Texas want East Florida, a territory it would have to defend in which it has no land connection with...

Timeline Q and A

Well my answer to your question is that for the time being the US would prefer an Indian State rather than having France/Spain in North America--since they already fought a war with French controlled Spain.

the 2 Flordias in my timeline are still in Limbo in my timeline and maybe I am getting ahead of myself.
