Burgoyne & Cornwallis - The men who saved America *working title*
So I'm working on a timeline where the 13 colonies are defeated in their bid for freedom.
Time line;
????
?????? ?? - Something happens that, although it does not stop the rebellion, it reduces the number of Patriots while increasing the number of Loyalists so we get a split of 30%-35% Patriot, 20%-25% Loyalist and 40%-50% 'Neutral'
1775
April 19 - Battle of Lexington and Concord
May 25 - Clinton, Cornwallis & Burgoyne arrive at Boston
June 15 - Washington named Commander in Chief of Continental Army
June 17 - Battle of Bunker Hill
August 23 - King George III declares colonies in rebellion
December 31 - Arnold fails at Quebec
1776
March 17 - British evacuate Boston
June 29 - Howe arrives at New York harbour
July 2 - Howe occupies Staten Island
July 12 - Admiral Howe arrives at New York harbour
August 27 - British Victory at Long Island
August 29-30 - Washington escapes
September 15 - British occupy New York
September 16 - Rebel victory at Harlem Heights
October 28 - British victory at White Plains
November 16 - British victory at fort Washington
November 20 - Fort Lee abandoned
December 26 - Rebel surprise victory at Trenton
1777
January 3 - Battle of Princeton (who wins? Washington killed?)
February 23 - Lord Germain receives word that General Carleton has died,
February 28 - Burgoyne presents his plan (Saratoga campaign) to Germain & he is given command
July 5 - Burgoyne takes Ticonderoga
August 6 - British victory at Oriskany (When does the siege end?)
August 16 - No battle at Bennington (Burgoyne is receiving supplies from Quebec without Carleton so no need for the raid)
September 11 - British victory at Brandywine
September 16 - Battle of the Clouds
September 19 - Burgoyne victory at Saratoga (Freeman's Farm) - Moves onto Albany? when does he arrive, what happens? Battle/siege?
* Arnold & Gates come to hate each other (ITTL before not after the battle) and Gates does not listen to any warnings and Burgoyne defeats his force via flank attack on the Rebel left
September 21 - Paoli 'massacre' (Not remembered as a massacre ITTL as Brit victory)
September 26 - Howe occupies Philadelphia
October 4 - British victory at Germanton
October 22 - Rebels hold at Fort Mercer
November 15 - Fort Mifflin falls to the British
November 18 - Cornwallis leads 2000 men back to Fort Mercer and the rebels withdraw leaving Howe well supplied
December 19 - Rebel army camps at Valley Forge
This is the point to which I have come to, the French (and others) are now very wary of getting involved and the Redcoats have been victorious, but I have yet to decide as to what happens next. This is why I am asking for assistance and ideas.
Ideally I would like Burgoyne to become Commander in Chief, and for Cornwallis to be sent south to Charleston (to secure the south and be "co-author" of the victory) as he was in May 1780, but this may not be necessary or the date may be moved forward, but what Burgoyne gets up to in the north is not something that I have looked into as of yet. I like the idea of Arnold defecting and taking West Point with him, gaining a great reputation as a British general, not sure how/when to achieve this though.
Any ideas will be very well received, as would any criticism of what I have written so far, please comment
