Hmmm, would there have been much difference to the Buffalo Soldiers, upon establishment in 1866, had there also been 1 or 2 all-black arty regts created in addition to the 9th & 10th Cav + 24th & 25th Inf Regts ? There were black arty batts in the ACW, plus later on in both WWs, the 92nd Div had its own organic arty regts too, plus you also have the independent black arty units such as the 369th AA which garrisoned Hawaii or the 333rd & 969th FABs at Bastogne- so why were no black arty regts created immediately post-ACW ? I suspect there may've been the underlying racist reasoning involved sayin that blacks were too tchnically unskilled to be effective with such modern machinery as big field guns- but WI there had been black gunners regardless to support the Plains War-era Buffalo Soldiers ?
