Bronze Age Collapse:What if Egypt and The Hittites Switch Places?

What I mean by the title is what if Egypt remained fragmented and cannibalized by its neighbors to the point it where a Pharaoh can never rise again. I suppose this would me more a political death as I'm certain the culture would survive in some hybridized form.

On the other hand what if the Hittites are just temporarily weakened and rebound later to reform and rebuild their Empire. The line of kings battered but unbroken. What are the immediate ramifications of a world changed in this way? How do groups like the Assyrians, Nubians, Axumites, and Sea Peoples, etc react? How does this effect the Eastern Mediterranean and the larger world in the long run?

Unfortunately for the Hittites, Assyria is on the rise and the BAC only hastened their ascension. Assyria had already defeated the Hittites in the 1170s, I cannot see them doing any better against Assyria than Egypt.

Its not a time period I'm all that strong in, but did Assyria really go that high into the Anatolian highlands? ... didn't they stay a bit further down in the Mesopotamian lowlands?

They battled each other in the areas of modern southeast Turkey and Northern Syria. Where they dislodged Hittite power in the areas Assyria was expanding into. It is also heavily implied that the conglomeration that defeated and ravaged Hatusa, was in turn defeated by Assyria.

well, even then, by the same argument then Egypt should have failed as well as the Neo-Assyrian empire also conquered quite a bit of Egypt, and as they didn't who's to say that Hattite can't 'resurrect' as well?

I am not purposing that Assyria will always defeat Hatusa, but that Hatusa will have to come to the terms that a new and more vicious power is rising in the Mid East and they need to adapt fast. War further is changed fast in this period and the old ways of doing things are changing, the Assyrians were masters of defeating old kingdoms who did affairs the old ways. Egypt as we know, would fall in short order and never recover from being conquered by Assyria and then was completely quelled by the Achaemenids. I feel the Hittites await a similar fate, as nothing last forever.

There is a problem with this. The Hittites suffered from a far worse plague/famine than the New Kingdom did. The Hittites were starving and running out of money. The central government collapsed because there was nothing it could do to pay armies to defend it. Meanwhile, Egypt is still ravaged, but central authority can still exist to a limited degree. Hittites faced complete societal breakdown.

To change this? You would have to ASB a change in climate patterns IMHO.
