"Broken America" - Fate of Louisiana?

Alright, so the men who made the Great Compromise die in a road accident, and America falls apart into different states due to the inability to come to a full conclusion.

For the sake of the topic, these are the states:

New England
Vermont
New York
Mini-USA comprising of Penns., Delaware and Maryland
Virginia
North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia

If all else goes OTL, what would be the fate of Louisiana?

I'm thinking it would either be sold to the Spanish or British or become an independent, Loyalist state during the French Revolution.

Does Louisiana have the population to become its own state?

Also, I'm unsure if Nappy would sell it to the Spanish(right after taking it), let alone the British. He sold it to America to keep it AWAY from the British.

Could it be broken up by the other states?

You know, I hadn't thought of that, but now that I do, it seems pretty plausible. Nappy might sell pieces of it to each different state, maybe even incite a bidding war for the best bits. That'd be a cool part of history for alt-altHistorians to explore, actually.

But yeah, southern Lousiana (i.e. Lousiana today) had a pretty sizeable population, while the rest was just basically hinterland servicing the port and filled with lonely outposts and fierce natives. So it could become an independent state, but the north would probably be taken over pretty quickly by predatory American nations.

I reckon the area around New Orleans would go to Britain if they take it militarily, while the rest of Louisiana would be sold of to each American Republic as has already been said.

Oh, yo, just had the best idea: what if Nappy sold the northwest to Russia, making a bigger Russian America?
I always thought Russian America was more a token colony to Russia, I doubt they'd be willing to spend out on a large piece of generally useless land that would merely annoy the British.

While neither New England [includes Vermont for this] or New York have a interest in the Mississippi, The other Five are vitally connected [economically] to the River.
So if Spain starts playing OTL's Games in the late 1790's~early 1800's about access, I see the Five having a joint military operation to seize the Port.

The Interesting story would be after they seize it.

Everything can't "go OTL", but Louisiana will in initially remain a European colonial possession.

Eventually a hegemon will develop along the North American eastern seaboard, most likely a combination of NY and the PA/DE/MA rump, which will expand westward. The mouth of the Mississippi will assume greater importance then and the region's history will become more "interesting".
