Britwank

This is probably just a thought but, as far as I have read in most threads it seems that:

* as long as most threads show that British Empire (or the USA) could have been bigger, more powerful, and IOTL they were as not powerful, I must conclude they had poor rulers and military leadership,

* as long as most threads show that the Spanish crown could have been smaller, much weaker, and IOTL they were more powerful than in any TL, I must conclude they had great brilliant rulers and extraordinary leadership,

So I propose the following POD, group of PODs:

* the Hapsburg do not inherit the Spanish crown but the English one, so we have the combined power of England, Burgundy and Austria,

* the alt-Trastamara in Spain keep a low profile as junior partners of the English-Burgundian crown, although they keep the burden of the American possessions (just a mean of keeping them weak).

How big could be that anglo-burgundian empire?

Not because some people in there keep wanking Britain and the USA doesn't mean that they had poor ruler and military leadership. If you look at history, Britain had several stroke of luck during the 18th century that assured it's dominance in the 19th century until it slowly lost it's power in the 20th century. The USA benefited from several stroke of luck, the first one, being that no one else engaged in large scale colonisation in north america and they had after their independance an almost empty continent to expand to and thus absorbed a lot of the emigration from the other continents.

Spain is really not liked on this forum, mostly because the membership is anglophone and spain (and it's independant colonies) was often an enemy of Britain and the USA and thus suffer from a bad reputation on this board. Also, Spain is sometimes replaced by Al-andalus in some timelines. And spain rulers were rarely great, and their miltary leaders often mediocre. But they had the advantage of geography to colonize the new world and the advantage of being more to the south which is often better for your population before the introduction of new crops.
