British Win In NO

My friend and I laugh all the time about how funny it would have been for the British to win the Battle of New Orleans only to learn that it was all for nothing.

But would it have been all for nothing if the British HAD beaten Andrew Jackson at New Orleans? If the British has occupied the city, would the British have decided to press on with the war? Would they have fought to occupy the mouth of the Mississippi River?

I have a pretty good sense of post Civil War history, but I'm flying blind as far as things before then. Maybe someone with more knowledge could offer sdome interesting insight.

It would be very unlikely, if not impossible. The peace treaty had already been agreed. It was just that the news hadn't reached the region yet.

There's an outside chance that if Jackson and his forces were heavily defeated it might loosen US control of the region. There were some French elements that have been described as pirates, who both sides had wooed and went with the US. Possibly if them going to the British then they try and maintain their independence after the British withdrawal. Or even come to some deal with the Spanish. Another option might be if the southern Indians are encouraged to rise up but I think the majority had already been killed/cowered.

You might see more conflict in the region but I can't see Britain being involved or any serious delay in the spread of US power to the region.
