British Scandinavia?

Is there any circumstances under which parts of Scandinavia could end up as part of the UK? I play Europa Universalis as Sweden alot and often ally with England, which often leads to England taking parts of Denmark or Norway. That has made me wonder if something like that could have happened for real....

Shouldn't be completely ASB. Best way is to have some kind of personal union established between England and Denmark, Norway or Sweden, so the English have a foothold in Scandinavia, from where they could establish claims on their neighbors.

Well, it wouldn't be the UK, but concievably a different outcome at Stamford Bridge and then the Hastings equivalent could have kept England more in the scandanavian cultural sphere. It's anyones guess as to which monarchy would rule who though.

Best way is to have a different 1066. Have Harald Hardrada delayed by three weeks before setting out to England by adverse winds or a jippy tummy. Harold Godwinson beats Norman the Bastard (as ATL history records him) with a fresh, rested Army unlike in OTL. Hearing about the Scandinavian invasion of Yorkshire he rushes North right after the battle to fight the Scandinavians. He is then beaten by Harold Hardrada's fresher troops and England is even more strongly in the Scandinavian cultural sphere then when under Canute with Norway and Denmark being ruled from London by an Anglo-Saxon-Nordic King and aristocracy.
The trick is to keep it there.

Well there's the obvious dynastic union that may occur, I pretty much from the 19th Century backwards it's easy to simply have someone die of an illness.

However my general favourite is (if you include it as part of Scandinavia) having England take Iceland in the 1780's and give Denmark 'Crab Island' in return. However this depends on whether you'd say Iceland is Nordic or Scandinavian...

Or Queen Elizabeth I and Prince Frederick of Denmark marry... While this Union is likely to be short, if you could find a way to have it extended then who knows... Some kind of political union may be achievable.

Someone once suggested that Margaret, Maid_of_Norway, surviving could lead to such a situation.

She was engaged to marry the rather lackluster Edward_II_of_England, but if she could give an heir with the same qualities as Edward III, with the right amount of dynastic manipulation in Norway, you could have an alt Edward III waging war to enforce his claim there instead of France. Of course, this would also mean that England and Scotland would be dynastically united centuries earlier.

A hundred years war in scandinavia instead?

I don't remember where I read it but didn't Norway want a union with the UK in the late 20th century at some point?

1958 if I recall. That was different however. That was a request to join the Commonwealth, in an era when the European Union in its primacy was very, very new and some nations were actually looking at the British Commonwealth as a potential economic bloc to rival and surpass the EU and create a safeguard against Communism in Europe and around the world. The French tried the same thing in 1955 where the President (can't remember who, don't think it could've been de Gaulle for obvious reasons) secretly requested France join the Commonwealth as it would have allowed for a monetary and political union which, if Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy etc had also been persuaded to join, could have created a cohesive European bloc which shut out the Soviet Union just as effectively as an American-supported NATO and EU could have.

It was also discussed in the 1930s; Norway was dependent upon trade with Britain, and wanted in the Sterling Bloc.

It's not that hard you just need to have a male child of Prince-Consort George of Denmark and Queen Anne of England survive to adulthood, afterward if we arrange a accident for Christian VI before 1723 Georges offsprings are the nearest heir to the kingdom of Denmark-Norway, the duchies of Schleswig-Holstein and the county of Oldenburg when Frederik IV dies in 1730.
