The point of the AH isn't its plausibility or how this would come about. But its more about understanding the British Raj in European terms. In reality, a reverse British Raj probably is not really possible so this is more an exercise in describing the British Raj but flipped around for pedagogical and entertainment purposes.
Now I know making the analogy is stretching it but if the situation was reversed, I'm thinking:
- The analog to the declining Mughal Empire is the declining Ottoman Empire except in this AH, it controls much more of Europe than IOTL and converted much more of the population to Islam.
- *India establishes "West Europe Company" (WEC) and in a key analog to the Battle of Plassey, wrestles control of a key part of Europe that is the analog of Bengal.
- WEC continues making inroads until parts of Middle East, much of Europe is controlled by *India to create "Indian Reich" (or whatever you want to call the mirror image of British Raj).
- Various rebellions occur but *India puts them down due to divide and conquer strategies and loyal equivalents of European nawabs.
- By *1945, *India decides it is time to give *Europe independence.
- *Indian Reich is partitioned into Muslim and Christian parts. Most of it is Christian but there is sizable Muslim minority due to centuries of Ottoman rule. We have two new countries that are analogues of IOTL India/Pakistan/Bangladesh.
Anyway I'll leave it to better authors to come up with a more detailed "Indian Reich" (or whatever term you want) that is basically the mirror image of the British Raj with Europe and India flipped around.
