British puppet in Ireland

After a victory by the anti truce ira in the Irish civil war, and subsequent British intervention, who would be a pliant nationalist they could use to lead the Irish free state?

They don't necessarily militarily intervene. All they need to do is decline to recognise the Irish government and impose a trade ban. At this point in time 90% of Ireland's export trade is with the British Empire. The Irish Nationalists expected their economy to grow stronger without British exploitation but by the 1900s this is an outdated view that no longer reflects the economic realities on the ground.

I feel like a military intervention would probably become necessary if there was, for example, a bombing at the Liverpool docks, and a resumption of IRA activity in ulster

In the case of the Anti forces winning (which seems unlikely tbh) they would have their hands busy as is, remember the Civil War did more damage to the infrastructure than the War of Independence so the country would be dealing with that after math. As to a military intervention if the UK did have to invade I doubt they'd bother with getting a figure head and just put a military governor in charge.

As to potential acts against GB or Ulster, again history shows the UK was willing to accept plenty of action without military actions.
