British Philippines

In this, the United Kingdom picks to keep the Philippines after the Seven Years' War, not giving it back to Spain. What would it look like? How would the British deal with the Filipinos and administrated it? What would Spain do? What would it look like today?

Link.

It would be an anglophone parliamentary republic today, still mostly Catholic, but with a larger Protestant population. It may also get more Indians and more Chinese. It probably also holds Sarawak.

Why would the British decide to do this? These threads of "Britain holds X because they can" regarding Philippines or Lousiana are both outrageously unlikely and while not ASB, might as well be. You simply cant skip over why before figuring out how history proceeds. PLUS the 7 Years War is the most unlikely time for the British to keep it, more likely for it to be Napoleonic Wars era (but still talking about going from 1% to 3% chance of it happening).

I said Sarawak and meant Sabah.

The only thing British held during the Seven Years war was Manila. The rest of the Philippines was held by the Spanish. That is going to be a problem if Spain is going to sell the Philippines besides being the the bread and butter of that Chinese trade.

Now, it is possible, but the British need to start winning and allocate more resources than OTL. The British never expected the Spanish to recruit locals as reinforcement. While the Spanish in the Philippines were really unaware of any war nor had any help from Spanish Americas or Spain herself.

I think the challenge is to find resources for the British to allocate more to the Philippines. That is an estimated 100,000 more British soldiers to pacify the opponents both Spain and whatever Spain recruits outside Manila.

Now, with administration, it is going to be closer to OTL India. The British could possibly give them Dominion not unless racism in British would still exist in ATL and Dominion requires you to be white.
