British Nigeria isn't unified in 1914 (or later)

What if, for whatever reason, Britain would have kept Northern Nigeria and Southern Nigeria separate?

How would the future of both Northern Nigeria and Southern Nigeria--especially (but not only) after independence--be affected by this?

Any thoughts on this?

Also, for the record, here is a map of British Nigeria before its unification in 1914:

Well Northern Nigeria is going to become just another less than prosperous Central African/West African Islamic state with not much in the way of prospects, Southern Nigeria however is going to be even more wealthy since it will retain all of the oil wealth whilst having a much small smaller population. With fewer north-south stresses the Nigerian Civil War might be avoided, alternatively what became, for a short while at least, Biafra might still have enough conflicts with the west that they decide to make a break for it. If that were to happen it would be a much more closely matched conflict.

Does northern Nigeria have little oil, or what?

Agreed.

How do you think that this conflict would turn out in this TL? A draw? If so, it appears that this could result in an independent Biafra (an Igbo-dominated state) along with rump Southern Nigeria becoming a Yoruba-dominated state:
