British Landings in Northern Germany in 1939?

fact and fiction

I am pretty sure that when churchill was first sea lord in 1939 he did come up with a plan involving sending significant naval forces into the baltic i think the operation was "catherine the great" or similar, thankfully for loads of sailors he was talked out of it , sure you can find some stuff via google it was mentioned in a great book by corelli barnett called the "right of the line"

The BEF gets destroyed Royal navy shattered and British ability to do anything for the rest of the war disappears.

Bit pessimistic I'd say. The lack of sealift capacity should mean that only about one division will be lost because no more could be transported. Naval losses would probably be limited because the landed division would be defeated so quickly that there'd be no reason to keep the navy there. :p

The plan was made in ww1. However, I don't know, if someone recycled it in ww2 as well. In any case a landing in Pommerania would be the end of the Royal Navy...

Yes, it was Operation Catherine

Seelöwe had much better chances of success than that or the Friesean islands.
That depends on how you define sucess.

My definition for sucess in such an endavour can stated as such:

Hitler goes his usual rational self in response to this and any effort poured into fortifying the Frisian Island and the north sea coast is effort wasted because it won't occur anywhere else.

Look what Hitler ordered the Channel Islands defended with and of how much use it was. That result is what I envision but on a grander scale.

By that stick even platoon sized para drops have an excellent chance of success.
