Simple question. The Bahamas, one of Britains larger colonial possessions in the Caribbean and Atlantic, not counting Jamiaca, was given internal self rule from Britain in 1964, and became independent in 1973.
Now, what might happen if for one reason or another, or as a result of several factors combining, if the British government in London, along with local politicians and other relivant figures in The Bahamas, tried to work out some sort of a more permanent, long-term agreement whereby the Bahamas are basically given the same status in the British empire as Bermuda or Gibraltar. External relations with other nations, as well as defensive matters are handled primarily from London, but the local politicians and businessmen can pretty much do as they see fit, as long as it is legal, in terms of the economy, education, and political activities within the islands themselves.
How would The Bahamas remaining a direct possession of the Empire effect the British position in the region, and throughout the world in general. This is assuming also that all other territories status remains the same as OTL, ie places such as Bermuda and the Falklands are still maintained, while places like Hong Kong and in Africa still go independent, or are turned over to other independent nations.
