British CSA

Also spurned by a bit of confusion, how could the British Empire take over an independant CSA and turn it into a Dominion or a Protectorate. Even a conquered colony like parts of Africa.

I thought about this once, and it seems highly unlikely, but I'll give it a try...

-In 1864, the Confederacy is on its way out. The British, fearing that the US will discover the support they gave the CSA (larger than in OTL, actual volunteers) and assail Canada, declare war on the US, alling with the CSA. The British support reinvigorates the CSA, and crushes the US. The result of the treaty that ends the war gives the British the Oregon Territory, Northern Maine, that Upper Michigan area, and grants the CSA "independence". The CSA, however, is forced to attach itself financially, and later politically, to the British Empire...

Anyone else have an idea?

What if CSA stands for "Cornish Superiority Association", dedicated to the task of creating Uber-Cornwall?

If it's powerful enough, Cornwall might get that much autonomy, but it's unlikely...

The CSA wins the ACW with French help and becomes a independant nation.
Over the second half of the 19th century though things don't go well. They have a few independance movements of their own and run into a war or two with the US where they loose all disputed territories and have a lot of other nasty little impositions put on them.
The CS economy is in a nose dive due to its insistance on sticking to slavery and the effects of the wars.
Around 1950 or so a rather right wing US invades the CS for keeps. It then however gets into trouble with Britain and is invaded itself. This US falls and democracy is restored to the continent again.
In the Confederacy a new order is established with equal rights for all and a rebuilding of the economy. Even after occupation time is over the government decides it likes being close to Britain (there's a lot of profit within the empire) and the situation sticks with them eventually becoming an official dominion.
