Okay, this is a rough sketch which I suspect all the Britons will steadfastly deny would never happen, but...

Imagine a situation in which America lost the Revolution, and George III's successor was someone like Ernest Augustus. Nasty, very anti-catholic, against any idea of reform.

Thanks to butterflies, the French Revolution ends up with a fairly competent leader, more along the lines of Ney or Bernadotte than Napoleon. This means Britain has ot keep up its military spending to compete.

1848 sees Ireland revolt, the King's suppression of the Act; attempts by Whigs to reform the system and give rights to Catholics are shot down, as are attempts to lift some censorship restrictions and expand voting rights. Ultimately, it boils over into a revolution which sees the monarchy deposed.

Assuming some sort of major crisis in Britain during the 19th century, what would happen in India? My guess would be a mutiny with a plan to reinstate the Mughals, but I could be wrong. And what would a Neo-Mughal state look like?
