During private cars the war the British motor industry was switched to military production and petrol was very heavily rationed. Due to a lack of replacements, spares ect, as well as many well as most of the private cars either being stored for 6 years or scrapped what cars there were, were worn out and in poor repair and needed replacing. When civilian production resumed post war such was the need for hard currency that the vast majority of new production went overseas and it was extremely difficult for someone in the UK to get a new car. What if recognising the need the government allowed a basic car to be built specifically for the home market, and what would be good designs to meet that specification?
