Elba comes to mind...

Inspired by the discussion in this thread, in particular the geographic/climatological reasons a New Orleans campaign was such a long-shot

Where could the UK have better employed Pakenham's force against the USA if not for New Orleans during the war of 1812?

Elba comes to mind...;)

Failing that, 5,000 British and West Indian troops really are not going to have a tremendous impact anywhere else; some of the same 5,000 had done their best against Baltimore, and we know how that turned out.

Replay of the Bladensburgh Races?:D

Cheif runner Jack Rabbit Madison!

So like an arrow swift he flew,

Shot from an archer’s bow;

So did he fly—so after him

As swift did fly MONROE.

Six gentlemen upon the road

Beheld our GENERAL ride—

MONROE behind—the chapeau gone;

The broadsword by his side.

Little late for that, since Ross was already dead and

Little late for that, since Ross was already dead and Cochrane had no stomach for a second-go-round after North Point-Hampstead Hill-Fort McHenry-Ferry Branch.

The British had already been defeated in 1814 at Plattsburgh-Lake Champlain and during the Baltimore campaign; anything similar on the east coast of the US was going to run into the same issues...

There's a reason they thought they could accomplish something on the Gulf Coast in 1815 on the cheap, but the reality is they failed there as well.

Again, Pakenham's force would have been better off guarding Elba.;)
