Britain's own Vietnam War during the 1960s

OK, how could britain have been involved in a Vietnam War-like quagmire during the 1960s ? WI say much more of a mess in Aden or Cyprus together with a no 'East of Suez' policy, to the extent of either or requiring a massive British military commitment a la the US in Vietnam ?

If you don't count Northern Ireland or the possibility of joining the US in Vietnam you have Cyprus (intervention as a guarantor power), Rhodesia, Aden, Zanzibar (Operations Parthenon, Boris, Finery, and Shed, and Plan Giralda), Hong Kong (an escalation of the '67 riots), Oman (helping the government in the Dhofar Rebellion), and Kenya (helping the government in the Shifta War). There's also the possibility of a more conventional war with China (over Hong Kong), Indonesia (an escalation of the Konfrontasi), Spain, Argentina, Venezuela (over Guayana Esequiba), or Guatemala (over British Honduras).

It will probably take a combination of these to create the required quagmire.

The trouble with this idea was that the British were involved in a number of insurgency operations from the 1950's onwards - the difference is, unlike the Americans, the British won them...
