Britain stands firm against Venezuela

Suppose Britain had not accepted the USA's arbitration in the 1890s and instead actually went to war with Venezuela.

I realise that this might spill over to beyond 1900, mods please be generous!

Scenario 1. Venezuela loses but at great cost to the British Navy. The UK states that reparations will be extracted from Venezuela through the gold fields and the oil fields. Realising that the new expanded British Guiana will give Britain yet more leverage in the world as a whole, Germany engineers a disaster at sea suggesting the British Navy has sunk a Brazilian civilian ship.

Take it away...
