Britain declares war on France, 1776

At this point, the British felt pretty comfortable with taking victory in America, did they not? What if the French were a little less clever in concealing their aid to the American colonies, and Britain discovers that they are supplying a good deal of the American's weapons, gunpowder, supply, and training.

Britain declares some kind of act or treaty that allows them to stop French ships and inspect them anywhere in the North Atlantic, as well as take their cargo and fine them if military goods are found.

What does France do? Just stop trying to help the American colonies? They are pretty weak after the Seven Year's War. Did they have the gumtpion to declare war, or Britain on them? What does that look like?

IS that supposed to be a DBWI or do you seriously think that France was that much weaker in 1776 than in 1778?

Surely there would be some effects, though, of an earlier French entry. French fleets at this early date would make a British invasion of the South a very unlikely affair.

Bright day
That is true, but OP was worded bit differently...:(
