The British white paper on palestine from march 1939 sharply limited jewish immigration to Palestine, promised and eventual ban and was designed to lead eventually to palestinian state under arab majority rule.

some motives of the british shift way from commitments to zionism were the arab revolt of 36 to 39 and the looming prospect of WWII. Both of these highlighted the costs of alienating Arab and Muslim opinion. woul either cause alone have been sufficient to cause Britain to turn away from zionism an partition? or was it only the comination of both circumstances that overrode the influence of pro zionist politicians ad lobbies in Britain?
