It is a well-known fact that Kaiser Wilhelm held great admiration for the British Empire and aspired for his kaiserreich to emulate its success in colonisation and naval strength. It is also suggested that he was actively seeking an alliance with Britain during the first decade of the 20th century, as Britian started leaning away from isolationism.
But of course this proved to be unobtainable. The people of Germany despised Britain and didn't wish to ally with them, preferring the culturally similar dual-monarchy Austria-Hungary. Britain also had no desire to be allied with the nation it saw as the greatest threat to her, and probably the largest reason for the decline in the popularity of isolationism.
But being an alternative history discussion website, I was hoping there might be people who help me get a greater understanding of the potential of this alliance.
How could it have come about? Would Austria-Hungary have joined this alliance? Would France and Russia have dared gone to war against them (if given the choice by an expansionist Germany)? Would this Francophobic alliance have won the Great War? How would the world around it have been affected (USA response, Russian revolution, etc)?
P.S. I'm not sure if this is how you are supposed to start a discussion here, as I'm a noob - but this is a topic that interests me greatly and I can't find any theories anywhere about it.
