Breitspurbahn

Those of you who know me well know that I am a total train freak with a background in 20th century history. So imagine my suprise the other day when I cam across this wikipedia article.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breitspurbahn

The Breitspurbahn (German pronunciation: [ˈbʁaɪtʃpuːɐ̯baːn], translation: broad-gauge railway) was a planned 3,000 mm (9 ft 10 1⁄8 in) broad-gauge railway, a personal pet project of Adolf Hitler during the Third Reich of Germany, supposed to run on 3 metre gauge track with double-storey coaches between major cities of Grossdeutschland, Hitler's expanded Germany.

With a modicum of searching , the following images were discovered.

And an idea on how containerisation and intergrated freight was to solve
the break of gauge problem

So , my question to you railfans is , does anyone know any more of this? If not (and my research suggests that date is hard to find) , then lets have a general Alt-HST thread , preferably involving streamlined diesels :D

Alt-HST? Would that be Valenta Paxman, or MTU? :D

I don't know about this particular idea, though it looks like another example of Nazi impractical gigantism. Just look at how big the H-44 battleship design was, you'd need the whole of Jutland to launch that monster!

One railway AH I was thinking about recently was a Victorian rail bridge to Skye. It was mentioned in the last episode of Great British Railway Journeys that the Bradshaw's of the 1890s hints at this possibility.
From what I can see it might have been possible to build such a bridge either from Mallaig, or from the Kyle of Lochalsh, where the road bridge is.

I suppose one possibility would be to build both options and join the WHL to the Kyle Line via Skye. :p

in Third Reich, the project was nicknamed "Hitler Model railway"

Speer for his Berlin gigant railway stations and
the Guy who design the Munich 300 Meter ø Dome railway stations had
there problems with the Monster Locomotive (Some Design were 120 METER LONG)
next to ultralarge size were pollution problem by Diesel powert Locomotive design
or Electric Locomotive design neede complet redesign of the gigant railway stations
Hitler comment on that was "NEIN NEIN NEIN..."
so they made a bizzar compromise
at arrival, the Locomotive are uncoupled and wagons are pull by smaller Steam Locomotive
Into the gigant railway stations

One of the railway design was special:
a concrete "Autobahn" with 2 track, the rails were embedded in the ground.
the Idea was to use this also as "military Autobahn" for Wehrmacht.
